Goals

Some places have many goals that benefit them and a few that may benefit you. Ours are simple:
  1. Operate at maximum eco-efficiency
  2. Enhance the image of sustainability & health for Downtown Las Vegas community & the greater Las Vegas valley area
  3. People are always the number one priority
We aim to be more of a social enterprise.
We're pursuing a better future for the community; not a bigger wallet.

The City of Las Vegas Can't Afford to be Unhealthy

Foods that are high in sugar, fat & processed are inexpensive.
Healthy foods, health clubs, personal trainers & various fitness centers are expensive.

According to the 2011 Gallup and Healthways survey, the adult obesity rates were higher than 15% in all but three of the 190 metropolitan areas. The Las Vegas-Paradise, Nevada rate is at 23.3%. The total estimated obesity cost for the metro area is $633,561,900. If the obesity rate rate dropped to 15% within the Las Vegas metro area; the savings would be estimated to be $225,689,432.

The biggest challenge is to shift urban residents lifestyle by providing healthy foods and safe places to exercise at an affordable price. The fact is that the 89101 ZIP code (including Downtown Las Vegas) has the lowest average income in the Las Vegas valley of $36,058.

As the obesity rate increases, it is in the best interest for the city to advocate a healthier more sustainable lifestyle within the community.

"your best body; will never be good enough."

A friend sent us a link to this post from (DepressedCopywriter.com), and there's an inherent truth to this.

It's difficult to set goals for your own body when realistically you may not know your own limits;
physically, mentally &
genetically.

There are so many factors that can affect your perceived results and your ambitions, but it is important to remember who is actually setting or leading you to set these goals for you.

Who Would You Listen To:
  1. An ad showing body + product/service.
  2. A cover model + blurbs about that "beach bod" or "6 pack."
  3. A doctor informs you that you have a form of cardiovascular disease.
"Your best body" may only last a season. Your health lasts as long as you live.
Keep on living.

"Heart disease takes the lives of far too many people in this country, depriving their families and communities of someone they love and care for—a father, a mother, a wife, a friend, a neighbor, a spouse. With more than 2 million heart attacks and strokes a year, and 800,000 deaths, just about all of us have been touched by someone who has had heart disease, heart attack, or a stroke." - Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius

Beta Mode: OFF ON [OVERDRIVE]

Great software have beta versions; Buff Buzz will have a beta version. We are learning as we are rocking.

A few things to clarify on what Buff Buzz is NOT:

"chain gym"
  • Buff Buzz is not just another franchise location or new studio location looking to expand to generate more revenue. Buff Buzz is to be built for the community of Downtown Las Vegas and to be shaped by the community's needs. We are modeling off of what we observe that is lacking within the community. Buff Buzz comes from humble backgrounds and strives to lift the community to be more sustainable & healthier.
"fitness mega center"
  • Buff Buzz is going to be small, compact and to the point of what we aim to do within the community of Downtown Las Vegas: promote eco-efficiency and sustainability, provide an affordable safe smoke-free environment & help empower people live a healthier happier life.
"weight loss guru"
  • We are all different in body shapes; that is normal. (You don't see lions, tigers & bears getting self-conscious about their bodies as they maul down their prey, oh my!)
  • We are not as medically healthy as we can be; that is not normal.
  • If anyone tells you (and most probably shouting at you) that they can "get you lose weight quickly guaranteed," run away. You'd probably get a good workout by running. In reality anyone who is in the industry for a quick buck would want you to regain your weight; for them that's more money. Not everyone can look like a superstar in a 5 minute production scene with enhanced make-up, shadowing, editing & 3+ months of extreme training that if continued may be detrimental to their health. With these "gurus" & super "personal trainers," if the net profit margin percentage is larger than the obesity percentage rate in the USA; that points to a larger problem about where their goals may be.
"life changer"
  • Buff Buzz believes that the only person that can guarantee you to shift yourself to be more sustainable, healthier and happier is you. You are the only person that can control what you drink/eat and how you live. By providing an environment where the community comes together and fuels the change; we can help empower your will to be healthier & happier, and the same time building a better more sustainable future for the community of Downtown Las Vegas & the world.
Buff Buzz opts to save the USA a million dollars than make a million dollars.

WTF is up with the EXP on Twitter?

All the EXP1, 2, 3 etc. on Buff Buzz's Twitter feed are not records of a speed run through Final Fantasy 7.

For the whole month of May, we will be documenting experiences at various "fitness" & "health" locations throughout the Las Vegas valley. All of the instances are real and will be documented via our Twitter handle with a tweet that begins with "EXP(#):"

Once June comes, we will aggregate all the May EXP tweets and embed them in one nice fancy blog post.

We Won't Stock Bottled Water

86 % of empty plastic water bottles in the USA land in the garbage instead of being recycled
Bottled water will not be stocked at Buff Buzz.

We will gladly allow use of bottled water & encourage everyone to recycle at our facility.

Our main belief is that water is a human right for all and should not be sold as a commodity. Listed below are additional reasons why we won't stock bottled water:
  • Bottled water can cost up to 10,000 times more per gallon than tap water.
  • 1.5 million barrels of oil are used to make plastic water bottles, while transporting these bottles burns even more oil.
  • Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year.
  • The growth in bottled water production has increased water extraction in areas near bottling plants, leading to water shortages that affect nearby communities and farmers.
  • Multinational corporations are stepping in to purchase groundwater and distribution rights thus making water a commodity.
  • Nearly 90 percent of water bottles are not recycled and wind up in landfills where it takes thousands of years for the plastic to decompose.

Hate Junk Mail? Ditto.

What a week's worth of junk mail looks like living in Las Vegas
Junk mail has a larger impact on the world's well being & yours as well:
  • More than 100 million trees are destroyed each year to produce junk mail.
  • 42% of timber harvested nationwide becomes pulpwood for paper.
  • The world’s temperate forests absorb 2 billion tons of carbon annually.
  • Creating and shipping junk mail produces more greenhouse gas emissions than 9 million cars.
  • About 28 billion gallons of water are wasted to produce and recycle junk each year.
  • 40% of the solid mass that makes up our landfills is paper and paperboard waste.
  • Junk mail inks have high concentrations of heavy metals, making the paper difficult to recycle.
  • $320 million of local taxes are used to dispose of junk mail each year.
  • Transporting junk mail costs $550 million a year.
  • The average adult receives 41 pounds of junk mail each year. 44% goes to the landfill unopened.
  • On average, we receive 16 pieces of junk mail a week, compared to only 1.5 personal letters.
  • You waste about 70 hours a year dealing with junk mail.
Buff Buzz will not use direct mailers or junk mail as a form of communication.

Deal:
Bring in a week's worth of junk mail to recycle at Buff Buzz, you'll get a free week pass.
PS: Nothing against any brands that may appear in the pile of recycled direct mailers; facts are facts.

"Guaranteed to Lose Weight!"

You've seen and heard ads, products & spokespeople telling you that you need to lose weight and whatever they offer will guarantee it.

With obesity rates at all time highs of one in three Americans, you'd think these things would work. If someone would stop worrying about how fat their wallet is and care more about how fat people's bodies are becoming; we'd notice the increasing sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits & constant search for a quick fix and how it is affecting everything.

Guaranteeing quick weight loss seems like such a gimmick as it really depends on a shift of lifestyle & consistency. One of our goals is to ensure that people begin and continue to become more active in their life; to be more aware of the consequences of how a bigger sized body world population affects their health & the world's well being.

Deal:
If you weigh over 350 pounds, you'll get to use our facility for free.
Not just one day; one month free.
No questions asked.....well maybe your weight.

% of USA Obese Adults: (BMI > 30)
